Prepare Yourself for Spring Activity

Last updated on August 9th, 2022 at 12:06 pm

Warmup exercises before resuming outdoor activities can help you avoid joint pain.

Spring finally arrives next week. It’s that magical time when the flowers and leaves appear, snow shovels disappear, and the weather warms, leading to more outdoor activities. But you shouldn’t just burst back into action after a lengthy period of inactivity. That can lead to damage to your joints, or even worse, serious injury.

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) recommends a brief warmup period before returning to the jogging or hiking path, bicycle trail, garden, or playing field. ACE suggests a warmup that utilizes the muscles that you will be using as well as flexibility exercises. A 10-minute warmup will loosen up the joints, ligaments, and tendons around them.

It’s also important to drink plenty of fluids before any activity. Hydration aids joints because it helps with shock absorption and boosts endurance levels. If your muscles tire quickly, you may be dehydrated.

But if you find yourself in pain after too much activity, homeopathy expert Joette Calabrese suggests the following single medicines:

Bryonia, which relieves joint pain that is improved by staying immobile and applying pressure.*

Dulcamara, which relieves joint pain and stiffness brought on by cold and dampness.*

Rhus tox, which relieves muscular and articular pains at the beginning of motion and then improved by slow motion.*

“By learning more about homeopathic medicines, you can become empowered to treat yourself and your family for acute ailments with an exceptional measure of success,” says Calabrese.
