Slow the Spread of Flu This Season

Last updated on July 21st, 2022 at 02:35 pm

Winter is coming. And so is flu.

Flu symptoms include cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, and feeling feverish or chills.

When flu hits you, it hits hard and fast. Symptoms include cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, and feeling feverish or chills. But not everyone with flu will have a fever.

Flu viruses are thought to spread when infected people cough, sneeze, or talk. The virus also may spread when people touch something with the virus on it and then touch their mouth, eyes, or nose.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there are simple things you can do to slow the spread of flu, including:

  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • If you or your child gets sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you (or your child) stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever subsides except to get medical care or for other necessities. The fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.
  • While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
  • If an outbreak of flu or another illness occurs, follow public health advice. This may include information about how to increase distance between people and other measures.
  • Keep a homeopathic medicine on hand. If you or a family member starts to feel fatigued or run down, a homeopathic medicine like Oscillococcinum can help nip symptoms in the bud. Oscillococcinum has been shown to reduce the duration and severity of flu-like symptoms such as body aches, headache, fever, chills, and fatigue.*
