Irritated Skin? Garden Marigold to the Rescue!

Last updated on July 28th, 2022 at 10:36 am

When it comes to versatility, it’s tough to top Calendula officinalis, also known as the garden marigold. The flower with the bright yellow-orange blossoms not only can be used decoratively, it can add flavor and a rich color to soups, stews, and drinks. It can also be used to provide relief for irritated skin.

Calendula’s healing properties are due to the presence of essential oils, saponins, flavonoids, and alkaloids. These compounds have been shown to promote healing. In topical form, calendula has a low risk of side effects when used as directed.

Boiron’s line of Calendula topicals provides healing and soothing relief for skin irritations like chafing, cuts, scrapes, minor burns, insect bites, and sunburn.*  It’s available in several formulas:

Calendula Cream’s light texture is both soothing and moisturizing. It is ideal for sunburn relief and on dry, chafed, or cracked skin.* It can also be used as a night cream or after exfoliation or cleansing treatments.

Calendula Gel offers non-greasy, non-sticky relief for insect bites and stings and shaving nicks.*

Calendula Ointment is designed to promote healing by moisturizing the irritation. Try it on minor first degree burns, blisters, chafing, cuts, scrapes or cracked heels. It’s also great for chapped hands and lips, as well as nasal irritations from colds.*

Can I use these Calendula gel, ointment and cream and homeopathic pellets if I tested positive for on a Patch Test for allergy to L-Limonene? I read Calendula produces L-Limonene to prevent pest damage. I have rashes and was going to use the natural products instead of the steroids. Thank you.

    1. Hi Christine, Boiron Calendula topicals are highly diluted homeopathic extracts, so you may not have a reaction. However, we recommend you perform a patch test on your skin with a small amount of product and wait two hours before applying on a large area to rule out a reaction due to your sensitivity.
