How to Keep Flu Free on Your Summer Vacation

Last updated on August 4th, 2022 at 10:32 am

The summer is one of the best times for travel. But if you are looking to get away from it all, there’s one thing you may not be able to escape— the dreaded flu. The stress of traveling, changes in exercise and sleep routines, and limited food choices when on the go can take a real toll on your health. And travelling can put you in more public spaces thus increasing your contact with germs.

Since flu is often transmitted hand-to-hand, you should take care to wash your hands often and avoid rubbing your eyes or nose. Carry hand sanitizer if you can’t get to a bathroom. You should also avoid putting your face directly on airline-supplied pillows or blankets that haven’t been cleaned.  Another general rule for air passengers is to drink at least 4-8 ounces of water for every hour of flight time, which keeps the body hydrated and lessens the chance of catching a virus. Avoid alcohol and caffeine which can dehydrate you.

For those unfortunate enough to get sick when travelling, there’s Oscillococcinum.  This homeopathic medicine works best when taken at the first sign of flu-like symptoms such as body aches, headache, fever, chills and fatigue.* Oscillococcinum is also easy to take. No water is necessary as the sweet-tasting pellets simply melt under the tongue. The TSA friendly individual doses are compact and can be tucked away in overnight bags and backpacks.

    1. Thank you for your question regarding Oscillococcinum. We do not recommend taking Oscillococcinum as a preventative but instead to take it at the first signs of flu-like symptoms.
