Boiron was pleased to have Dr. Hunter “Patch” Adams as our special guest at Natural Products Expo East ’11in Baltimore, Md. over the past weekend. Patch is best known for his work as a medical doctor and a clown, and he is also a social activist who has devoted 40 years to changing America’s health care system. He believes that laughter, joy and creativity are an integral part of the healing process. Since 1971, Patch’s Gesundheit! Institute, a not-for-profit health care organization, has offered holistic medical care to tens of thousands, given workshops and lectures in over 65 countries, built and supported clinics, schools, and orphanages from El Salvador to Cambodia, and brought the joy of clowning to parts of the world damaged by violence and injustice.
Boiron is helping Patch and his team to continue these charitable good works by donating a portion of proceeds from the purchase of our Arnicare products from specially marked displays this fall. Retailers and others were introduced to the new displays at the annual east coast gathering of natural product manufacturers, retailers and distributors.
Patch was on hand at the Boiron booth to talk about his long time efforts to build a teaching center and clinic on the institute’s land in West Virginia. Once built, Patch’s clinic will offer free care that is based the principles of compassion and friendship with the well-being of the staff being as important as the well-being of the patients. All manners of complementary care, including homeopathy, will be practiced. The atmosphere will be infused with fun, he says. Patch spoke more about his fundraising efforts for the clinic and his institute’s global good works as one of the conference’s featured speakers. His lecture, “Medicine for Fun not Funds,” was held before a packed room of enthusiastic supporters.
