The recovery efforts continue in Haiti nearly one year after a powerful earthquake shook the nation at its core, and a recent cholera outbreak has only complicated an already dire situation.
One organization who continues to bring relief to the Haitian people is Homeopaths Without Borders. The mission of this 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is to provide humanitarian aid, homeopathic treatment, and education by serving as partners with communities in need. Led by project coordinator Dr. Lauri Grossman, Homeopaths Without Borders has made several trips to Haiti to educate the country’s doctors and nurses on how homeopathic medicines can treat a variety of conditions. Dr. Grossman and her team trained almost 140 nurses during their last mission trip in early November. These nurses will earn their certification through the American Medical College of Homeopathy in 2011.
An expert in integrative care, Dr. Grossman is a licensed chiropractor and homeopath, and chairs the Department of Humanism at the American Medical College of Homeopathy. Dr. Grossman was recently interviewed by Fox News about her experiences in Haiti and the work being done by Homeopaths Without Borders.
We recently sent several of our medicines, including Arnica, Calendula and Optique 1, to Dr. Grossman to assist with Homeopaths Without Borders’ latest endeavors in Haiti. We received this update from her:
Dear friends,
Your books and remedies are going to good use and helping people far more than you can imagine.
As news of cholera spreads, we are still treating people in Port-au-Prince.Although we didn’t see anyone with the disease yesterday, the poor health of the people here is striking. So many girls and women have vaginal infections. So many children have infected cuts. So many men have reddened eyes, rotten teeth, and injuries that are healing badly. The nurses and docs here are as dedicated as anywhere else, but they lack supplies, and they don’t have medicines.
Today, we are training a group of 60 nurses who want to learn all they can about homeopathy. The docs and nurses here urgently need something that can help them more effectively treat diarrhea, ear infections, vaginitis UTIs, and every sort of infection under the sun.
Tomorrow, we return to St. Vincent’s Center for Handicapped Children, a peaceful oasis for injured young people opposite the prison in Port-au-Prince.The nurse there is warm and intelligent but she has no medicines and is desperate for something that she can use to help those in her charge. Take a peek at these photos. These kids are angels.
Please tell everyone at your schools, labs, clinics and offices that we are deeply grateful for all they have done to help.
XO, Lauri
